You all have probably come up with way better ideas for the major arcana, but I thought I'd toss my own in just in case...Collapse )

Minor arcana suits [03 Aug 2005|01:19pm]

As I said in my comment on the major arcana, I'm interested in Tarot but not a fanartist - so feel free to kick me out if you don't want mere observers to comment.

Anyhow, I've had some thoughts on allocating the suits, which I thought I'd share here in the hope that they might provide useful seeds for discussion.Read more...Collapse )

Here are my suggestions for the majors...

I am putting them behind a cut for those of you who haven't read Half-Blood Prince yet. Know that these choices might change when the seventh book comes out. Criticism is welcome.

Though we're probably way ahead of the game, what are some suggestions for the major arcana? I figure we can take suggestions and then run a poll. If you feel like explaining your choice, go right ahead. :D

Introductory post! [01 Aug 2005|08:09pm]

While browsing decks of tarot cards, I got the idea in my head to make my own. I started going through mythologies and themes that would be relevant to me, and inevitably I stopped at Harry Potter. Unfortunately, my own artistic skills are limited, but another thought stopped me:

Wouldn't it be great to get all those fantastic fanartists together and design and create a deck with both symbolism we all relate to easily and a variety of styles represented?

And thus, here we are.

There are many preliminary decisions to be made, from design (do we want all the cards to have a similar border, to give the range of styles a cohesive feel, or are they better left up to individual styles? What size deck would be best?) to symbolism (Who's the best character to represent the Hermit? Wands may be a given, but what of the other three suits? Should each suit have an appropriate house-elemental affiliation?). So come on in and drop ideas for now! I think this could end up being a very entertaining and satisfying project.
